Picture of the Month – March 2003
March 1st, Lori and I presented a dozen outfits from her collection for a fashion show at the Ingomar Club. The first garment, a dress with two matching bodices from 1840 was too small to present on a live model, so it was shown on a dress form. The remain outfits, dating from the 1860s to the 1930s were worn by friends who have helped us document the clothes for Lori’s Vintage Clothing web site. After the show was over, we gathered all the women together in the front parlour of the Carson Mansion for a group picture. It was really quite stunning to see nearly a hundred years of fashion in one grouping, especially since the newest garment was over 70 years old!

Kaline found us through the vintage fashion web site and always dreamed of being a Victorian lady. Being tightly cinched into a corset usually cures one of that dream.

Picture of the Month – June 2002
I hired Alissa White for two days to work on my portfolio, and to help document our vintage clothing collection. Alissa White is an experienced model and is comfortable modeling nude, so in addition to the vintage clothing, she also modeled for some boudoir and glamour photos to add to my portfolio. Here Alissa is wearing a corset and pantalets from around 1910.

Picture of the Month – April 2002
Photographing a beautiful woman wearing a slinky black velvet dress sounds like a lot of fun. Until you try to light it and have the black velvet look like something other than a black hole. The problem is that black velvet doesn’t reflect much light, in fact photographers often use it when they want a solid black background. So by the time you get enough light on the velvet to show any detail, everything else around tends to be overexposed. To further complicate this shoot, both the model, Jessica Warinner, and the photographer were recovering from the flu. But all in all the shoot ended up successfully, and you can see more of the shots on Lori Knowles’ Vintage Fashion site. Location for the shoot was kindly provided by the nice folks at the Benbow Inn.

I met Chelsea while she was helping round up some of my neighbor’s cattle. As the cowboys would say, she cleans up real good. She’s modeling a 1930s silk slip from Lori’s vintage clothing collection. The location is the Lost Coast, between Capetown and Petrolia.

Picture of the Month – November 2001
Since I featured Maren in October, it is only fair to also feature her mom, Jessica. While taking a family dress up portrait, I got the idea for this photograph. So I invited Jessica back and the results were just like I imagined. I love it when that happens.
