For our March drill meeting, the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department invited Fortuna Fire and Humboldt Bay Fire to bring their ladder trucks so we could practice a multi-agency event on Main Street. Humboldt Bay had just received delivery of their new ladder truck, 8181, and hadn’t even put it in to service yet, so it was a good chance for them to get used to it.
It’s a good looking truck, especially at night with the blue lights that go up the boom. But this was my favorite photo from all of them that I took that night because it looks like the truck is generating it’s own force field. With all the recent news of firefighters being lured into death traps or hostage situations, it might be nice if fire trucks really did come with their own force field.
